The Prime Minister has plans to provide more NHS and social care to people in their own homes

In a recent speech in London, Gordon Brown outlined new plans to provide one to one nursing for all cancer patients for the next 5 years. He also stated that all results for cancer test would be given in only one week. These new reforms would be paid for by the NHS which would save £20 billion over the next few years.
The government has already guaranteed free care for 300,000 people in there own home and now they are planning to include universal access to reablement and rehabilitation services in the national healthcare service. These services will be available to people for 4 to 6 weeks after they have had an accident, have been in hospital or have been in residential care.
Mr. Brown mentioned that this service is already available in London. It’s run by Newham Council which is one of the few councils in the country that provides all it’s social care services for free. However, the Prime Minister did not state how such a service will be funded. He said that would be set out before the upcoming election.
Gordon Browns opinion is that spending more money on preventative care like this will inevitably save money and reduce the number of hospital admissions, therefore reducing hospital costs.
