Outbreak of Norovirus at hospital means schools and care homes prepare to fight the bug

25 Feb, 2010

A recent outbreak of a bug called Norovirus at Burnham hospital has lead to a local cleaning regime in, not only the hospital, but in schools and care homes as well. One ward has been locked down, with admissions and discharges temporarily suspended. This is due to several patients on this ward showing signs of the illness last week. Antibacterial hand soap is now available on all wards.

The outbreak did not originate in the hospital, which means another outbreak could happen anywhere. The local schools, hospital and care homes are ready to deal with the bug if another outbreak was to happen. They are all implementing basic hygiene measures to prevent the bug from returning. This includes using antibacterial products such as Antibacterial Hand Soap and Antibacterial Hand Wipes. We have a range of hand soap products available. These include Germ Warfare (Antibacterial, Biocidal Hand Soaps and Sanitisers), Gojo and others.

Also, when dealing with food, it is important to follow the highest cleaning standards and practices, using antibacterial hand soap and other cleaning products. Kitchen workers at the local nursing home said "It is essentially important for us to follow high cleaning standards when dealing with food. Our matron here has her finger on the pulse and is quick to take precautionary measures if necessary."

Earlier this week there were several patients in the hospital who were still recovering from the illness. However, the hospital was functioning normally and the nurses have said that there is a minimal risk of the bug spreading to others especially when using the hand sanitising stations at the entrances to wards.
